Welcome to my website!
I started painting when I was an economist specialising in environmental issues. My work took me to remote areas of the developing world, as well as Europe and North America. Over the years, I filled many sketch books and covered numerous canvasses with my impressions of both natural and man made beauty, often when it was under immanent threat of destruction. My focus has always been on a sense of place and atmosphere - often a pattern of light and shade, a glitter on shadowed water, or perhaps the fine mouldering surface of a wall or door. The potential for drama in such images often draws me to paint in low light, even by night.
I have had shows in England, Scotland, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, and my paintings are in private collections in these countries as well as in Canada and the United States.
For almost twenty years my wife and I have lived in the Maremma region of Southern Tuscany, where I have painted hill towns, the glorious sea coast, olive groves and the ubiquitous grazing sheep - a never ending source of visual inspiration.
I am a member of the Chelsea Arts Club in London, on whose website some of my work is displayed.
